  • What will I be learning in this 5-part workshop?

If you are just starting to learn to paint, or if you are rekindling an old passion in art, you shall start with the basics. In this 5-part class you will learn basic stroke techniques, how to work with ink  and tonality, wet and dry brush, combining ink with watercolor.  You will learn to paint one subject in each class, for example:

Orchids /Bamboo/ Chrysanthemums / Plum Blossoms / Landscape

  • How often should I take the class?

This workshop offers a lot of flexibility to the learners. You can choose to take the class once a week on Thursdays at 2:00 (Pacific Time). Or, you can order pre-recorded class videos after December 1, where you can work at your own pace. And if you are an enthusiast, you can complete the 5 parts in 5 days all in one week. We will be happy to assist you to plan a schedule to suit your needs. Additional class time can be arranged should you need some feedback from the instructor, otherwise, communications and assignments can be discussed via email.

  • What art supplies do I need to purchase for this class?

The basic tools include black Chinese ink (or or Japanese Sumi ink), Chinese brushes, watercolors, and paper (thin absorbent rice paper or Chinese mulberry paper). We offer a beginners < Art Kit > that can be ordered online, and additional supplies for advanced learners.

  • When can I sign up?

  • What can I expect to gain from this class, can I learn if I have never painted before?

There is no better time to start now. Our instruction is easy to follow at any level. The overall goal is to participate in a creative process while staying socially connected. The benefits are often multifold ~ enjoyable, relaxing, and positively stimulating.

  • Who is this for?

This program is designed for beginner to intermediate level. Instruction will be adjusted according to the needs and interest of each individual. We offer something for anyone at any age, or anyone who can hold and use a brush properly. Individual lessons or group lessons are available for families with young children, teenagers, adults and seniors. There is no prerequisite other than willingness to learn and share.

  • Do I need to learn to use Zoom for these online workshops?

For those of you who are new to Zoom we will help you with sharing simple learning steps that are available on the internet. We will also allocate extra practice time to learn the technology. Back to Description page
